The Water Environment Association of Nigeria (WEAN) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization of more than 1000 individual members and affiliate organisations representing water quality professionals around Nigeria.
WEAN is an associate member of Water Environment Federation (WEF) based in United States of America.
Since 2001, WEAN and its members have protected public health and the water environment. WEAN and its network of members provides water quality professionals around the Nigeria with the latest in water quality education, training, and business opportunities.

WEAN’s diverse membership includes scientists, engineers, regulators, academics, utility managers, plant operators, and other professionals. WEAN uses this collective knowledge to further shared the goal of improving water quality around Nigeria and beyond.

WEAN provides technical education and training for water quality professionals who clean and manages water and keep the environment natural.

Nigerian water system is in crisis. Despite safe water and sanitation being our human rights, millions of Nigerians lack access to these basic essentials of life according to United Nations.

Therefore, WEAN wants to partner with government ministries, agencies and department to ensure the sustainable management of water resources, good sanitation and keeping clean environment in view of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.

PAST ENGAGEMENTS
Between 2001 and 2005, WEAN collaborated with Rivers and Delta State government in training both their waste managers and staffs of their respective water corporation on waste management and water supply.
We equally partnered with Federal Ministry of Water Resources to organize seminar and workshop on World Water Day of June 5 2005.
We also presented paper during debate on the Water Bill.

OBJECTIVES

WEAN is committed to increasing awareness of the impact and value of water. As a critical part of our mission, WEAN works to improve clean water, the water profession, clean water services, and then to develop the dilapidated water infrastructure in Nigeria that supports it as an essential to protecting public health, the environment and quality of life.
The key strategic objectives under the Strategic Plan are:
1. to attract and develop a diverse and passionate dedicated professionals;
2. to cultivate a purpose-driven community to sustainably solve water challenges for all; and
3. to lead the transformation to the Nigerian circular water economy.

The Strategic Plan embodies WEAN’s embrace of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all that we do. WEAN is committed to equity and inclusion in all aspects of our work, including within the governance structure and leadership, WEAN partners, WEAN staff, and the WEAN membership.
This commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion will guide our work and our programs, culminating in outcomes that will improve public health for all in Nigeria.
